RECIPE FOR THE WEEK - JAMAICAN EASTER BUN

Next week in Easter.  Easter is never the same without some bun and cheese.  With our busy lives, no one wants to prepare buns using yeast mixture.  Well, no need to worry as I have a solution for you.  Here is a bun recipe that you can make without yeast.  It is quick and easy.

JAMAICAN EASTER BUN


Ingredients
1 pint stout
1 cup  sugar
2 ozs margarine
2 tbsp honey
1 cup fruits (raisins, cherries, mixed peel)
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 egg - beaten
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
Browning


Direction
Place stout, margarine and honey in a saucepan and heat on medium low heat until margarine is completely melted.

Remove saucepan from heat and put aside for a few minutes.

Grease and flour 9 inch x 5 inch loaf pan.

Sift the flour and baking powder together.

Add spices (nutmeg, cinnamon) and fruits to flour mixture.

Stir in stout mixture  and egg into flour mixture. Mixed well, adding browning to the desired color.

Pour mixture into the greased pan.

Bake at 375 ⁰F for about 15 minutes then reduce heat to  325 ⁰F until done.

Mix  together 2 tbsp brown sugar and 1/2 cup of water.  Lightly brush some of this mixture over the warm bun.  This will form a glaze.





Don't forget the cheddar cheese!
