New Year Goals

Happy New Year to everyone!  Can you believe it is 2015? Well, with new year comes new resolution or goals. I am sure you have made your goals already and probably well on you way in trying to accomplish these goals. Like you, I have made some goals for 2015; one is to continue my quest to be debt free.  Another is to save enough money throughout the year to finance my Christmas giving.  Too often we find ourselves dipping in to our savings to cover the cost of gifts and celebrations.

Here are two ways I am trying do savings for this year:

1. I opened a Christmas Club account at my Credit Union. This is quite simple, go in to the office and request to have this account. If you have direct deposit going to the bank each pay period; they simply route an amount to your Christmas Club Account.  You tell them what amount you would like to go to this account each time. At the end of November, the Credit Union will transfer the money saved throughout the year in your savings or checking account; your make the choice.  This could be a wonderful way to save some money. Each deposit can be set to meet your budget.  Why not try this?  If you have another method you are using; please share as I would love know and share it with others.

2.  I saw this method on Pinterest and decided to try it. Use a mason jar or any other jar that have around the house and collect a particular denomination ; your choice. I have chosen to save one dollar and five dollar bills when ever I find those bills in my possession. Do you out to get them; this would defeat the purpose. Just save them when you find yourself with the bills you chose.  I am using a chocolate container that I got over the holidays.

Here is a picture of my jar with a few notes ($1.00 & $5.00).
